Conducted a workshop for parents on dealing with adolescents and participated in the career counselling fair at St. Ebbas School at the request of "Career & Wings".
At the request of the North Chennai Police, Suicide Awareness Programs were conducted in different parts of North Chennai from 2/2/2006 to 8/4/2006.
Programs on Suicide Prevention were held at Prof. Dhanapal College for UG/PG students, Employees of SFI at Avadi, P.T. Audit Staff, TCS, Sholinganallur. S.B. Mootha Girls Secondary School, 60 teachers of Dindivanam, Action Aid field workers at Kanyakumari, M.A. Chidambaram College of Nursing, Southern Pearl School, teachers and students of D.A.V. School, Mogapair, 50 members of voluntary organization at Vilupuram and Sri Krishnaswamy group of schools at Anna Nagar.
A workshop for media people was conducted at Hotel Savera on sensitive reporting.
The new premises of Sneha at No.11, Park View Road, R.A Puram, Chennai-28 was inaugurated on 11th October and on the same day the 24 hours service was inaugurated.

2005
Tsunami Training Programs were conducted for field workers and others involved in relief. Our volunteers were asked to help prepare training manuals for UNDP, UNICEF and WHO on training volunteers and relief workers during disasters.
Tent Befriending at Srinivasapuram for those affected by the Tsunami was set up in a tent sponsored by Bhoomika Trust.
Stress programs for standard 10 and 12 students was conducted in Kumari Rani Meena Muthiah Corpn School, Springfield Matriculation, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jai Hind Matriculation School and Vidyodaya Matriculation School.
Psycho-social support training was conducted at MSSW, Sukam Psychological Centre, NIFT, MAC Nursing College, KMC and Anna Nagar Valliammal College for Women.
World Suicide Prevention day Publicity campaign was conducted in various centers in City.

2004
Sneha launched a support group called “Survivors After Suicide” this year for members who have survived the loss of a dear one by suicide. Dr.B.Saraceno, Director, Mental Health Division launched the programme, W.H.O. at a function held on January 30, 2004 at the TAG Centre, Chennai.
Workshops for FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India) employees, Teachers (45) of Nirmala Sr. Sec. School, Coimbatore.
A Seminar on Suicide Prevention conducted by us on behalf of JJ Nagar Police Station for the residents of Mogappair, Chennai.

SNEHA conducted a Mini Marathon Race (7 KM) at Annanagar to create awareness about SNEHA and World Suicide Prevention Day, followed by distribution of pamphlets at important intersections in Chennai.

2003
A number of awareness programmes were conducted for specific target groups like Students, nursing college students, rural women self help groups, teachers, slum dwellers. In this year, September 10 was declared as World Suicide Prevention Day. Sneha distributed about 10,000 pamphlets throughout the city and created awareness on suicide prevention on this day.
A workshop was conducted for the employees of FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India). Around 50 employees participated in this programme.

 

2002
The year 2002 saw Sneha reaching out to slum dwellers, students and organisations. This year again Sneha remained open for 24 hours for a period of 15 days from May 18 to June 2 during the announcement of Board Examination results. Got wide coverage on JAYA T.V., Indian Express and quick news.

The Director of Sneha participated in a panel discussion along with two counsellors in the field of Education & Marriage counselling. The subject was “Relationship in Transition”. The Director spoke about befriending relationships. Awareness programmes were conducted in the slums of Pulianthope.

A workshop was conducted for Students of Umayal Achi School of Nursing on ‘Suicide Prevention’. Awareness programmes were conducted for II year B.A. Students at Stella Maris College’ for Professors of I.I.T. Chennai and for 46 students of Sri Ramachandra Medical College of Nursing.

 

2001
The year 2001 saw Sneha reaching out to slum dwellers in T.P. Chatram, Teynampet and Pulianthope, students in M.C.C. Tambaram, Vedavalli Vidyalaya, Walajahpet and SOS children's Village, Tambaram. Workshops were held for student nurses of the Omayal Achi College of Nursing and trainees from SCARF. Sensitisation programmes were conducted for the Finance Ministry Women's Association and Mohan Foundation Counselling Centre. To address the emotional needs of students during the crucial period of the examination results, Sneha remained open round the clock from 25th May to 10th June.

Sneha had the distinction of being the first NGO to host the Biennal Conference of the International Association for Suicide Prevention from 22nd - 26th September. 400 luminaries from the fields of Medicine, Psychiatry, Psychology and Social Work, hailing from 22 countries participated in the conference, which was being held in Asia for the first time.

 

2000
Awareness campaign through the launch of wallet calendars with information about Sneha, And setting up of stalls in exhibitions. Several mainstream and vernacular publications carried features on Sneha. Sensitisation programmes were held for trainees from SCARF, student nurses from the Navnirman Trust and students of the Madras School of Social work. Conducted a session on suicide prevention for the staff of ISRO, Sulurpet. On its 14th Anniversary, Sneha conducted a workshop for nurses from the leading hospitals of the city.

 

1999
A number of awareness and sensitisation programmes were conducted for students, student nurses, teacher trainees, trainees of SCARF and trainee nurses of Andhra Mahila Sabha. Awareness campaigns were also conducted for organisations such as the Viswakarama Society, Rotary Club, Agricultural Women's' Association and Lions Club. Ms. Mandy from Jersey, Channel Islands visited Sneha for a Training programme and participated in the Annual Conference at Pondicherry.

 

1998
A number of awareness programmes were organised to sensitise students, members of the Rotary Club, housewives, members of Zonta and Canstop. One-day workshop at Air Force Station, Avadi and for Arunodhaya. The Madras University recognizes Sneha as a Resource Centre for suicide prevention.

 

1997
Sri Lanka Sumaitrayo hosted a resource workshop at Colombo. Sneha addressed the Trustpuram Ladies Club and the Madras School of Social Work on suicide prevention. Participated in the "The Hindu" poster exhibition. Conducted a one-day workshop at Air Force Station, Avadi and for Arunodhaya an NGO working for street children. Awareness programmes among the students of Standard XI of the Hindu Senior Secondary School and for the students and staff of DAV Senior Secondary School.

 

1996
Sneha organised a two-day International workshop on suicide prevention. The topic was "Towards a multi-dimensional approach to suicide prevention in India". The highlights of the workshop were commemorative lectures on "Youth Suicide" by Dr. David Clark, Chicago-USA; Prof. Robert Goldney, Australia spoke on the topic "Suicide Prevention-everyone's responsibility". Vanda Scott, U.K. spoke on "The role of Voluntary Organisations in Suicide Prevention".

 

1995
Sticker campaigns on suicide prevention in the auto-rickshaws in Chennai. Conducted street-plays in Tamil in the slum areas in Chennai with the help of the Nalamdana Stage group.

 

1994
Sneha invited Prof. Dr. Richard Frederick Ramsay from the University of Alberta, Canada for conducting a two-day Workshop, on the need for suicide prevention centres.

 

1993
On the occasion of the seventh anniversary celebrations Sneha invited other voluntary Social Service Organisations to participate and speak about their services. 18 such organisations participated in this programme under the President ship of the renowned social worker Mrs. Sarojini Vardappan.
